Policy 18 has been updated. Please take the moment to read over the new policy governing scripting practices.
Thanks,
SGM Lothwyn
GemStone IV Player Policy: Scripting Abuse Policy
Any activity that derives ANY benefit to either yourself or another player while being unresponsive to the gaming environment will be considered against policy.
If your attention is not on the game window, you should log out of the game or stop ALL SCRIPTED activities (including but not limited to: artisan skill use, guild skill use, healing, lock picking, purifying gems, spell casting, and hunting) to avoid being warned. The use of character "bots" that provide third parties an in-game advantage while being AFK are strictly prohibited. The excuse that you looked away from the monitor or left your desk for a few minutes will not prevent you from being issued a warning since the Staff of GemStone IV will have no way of verifying that fact.
Warnings for scripting or any unresponsive activities are based on the Staff's observation of the character, and the Staff's judgment may vary from instance to instance. Therefore, each instance of scripting abuse will be judged independently. Furthermore, GameMasters have the right to verify that any and all characters are following this policy at any time.
Exceptions
In general, if you are running a script or are in Rest Mode and are not gaining any NEW experience, skills, money, or providing other players or characters with an in-game advantage (e.g., casting spells), it does not fall under this policy. ANY activity that is deemed by Staff to be disruptive or not in the best interest of the game or its players can be warned when discovered. Examples include, but are not limited to:
--If you are script moving in and out of a room, a warning may be issued because it causes undue screen scroll.
--If you are gaining skills passively or providing other characters with an in-game advantage, a warning may be issued based on your being unresponsive to the gaming environment.
--If your "Rest Mode" message is determined to be inappropriate, a warning may be issued based on the messaging being Out of Character (OOC) or disruptive.
--If you set up a character "bot" to provide services (e.g., healing, lock picking, spell casting) to others while being AFK, you will be issued a warning.
Character "Bots"
For the purpose of this policy, a character "bot" is defined as any character that is unresponsive to the gaming environment except for scripted responses to triggers which can be executed by third parties to perform automatic "services" (e.g., healing, lock picking, spell casting, etc.).
Any participation in the use of character "bots" witnessed by Staff, even if the AFK character(s) is not connected to your account, will be considered against policy and result in a warning and or other penalties. For example, if you knowingly activate a script run by another character who is AFK (such as set up to cast spells when "tapped"), you will receive a warning for Scripting Abuse.
Multiple Accounts
The use of multiple accounts is not prohibited by GemStone IV Policy; however, if a player chooses to run multiple accounts at the same time, and they are being controlled by AFK scripts and are gaining ANY benefit to the character or other surrounding characters, the player must be actively responsive to the gaming environment from EACH character's perspective.
Violation Penalties
For the purpose of this policy, all offenses by any character on an account can be treated as having occurred to the same character. As with other policy violations that lead to lockouts, accounts that are "linked" by any method, including but not limited to name, address or other billing information, password sharing, or account access, can be treated as the same account in regards to disciplinary action.
First Offense: Player receives a formal warning, is moved to a consultation room, loses ALL field experience (unabsorbed experience) and an experience inefficiency penalty is added, and must reread and agree to policy before being released. If the character was scripting an Artisan Guild skill or Adventurer's Guild task, will lose HALF of their current bounty points or 50 ranks in an artisan's guild or 10 ranks in a professional guild skill.
Second Offense: In addition to the second warning, substanial penalties may be assessed, including experience inefficiency penalities, and the loss of all current outstanding bounty points. The character may also be removed from the Adventurer's Guild for 30 days, and lose up to HALF of ALL ranks in an artisan or professional guild skill.
Third Offense: The account, plus all related accounts, can be locked out for 30 days. In addition, substantial experience inefficiency penalities can be assessed, all Artisan's or profession guild skill ranks may be removed, and all characters on the account may be removed from the Adventurer's Guild for at least 30 days and forfeit all current rewards.

FORUMS POLICY UPDATE
Author: GS4-EMERADAN
Date: 2/29/2008 4:37:29 PM
In recognition of the 5% of the poster population which constitutes 95% of the Moderator staff's attention, the Moderators have updated the method by which posters are evaluated for Cautions, TAC Warnings, and possible removal from the Forums. This updated method is intended to remove problem posters in a more expedient manner than before, and should be hardly noticeable by 95% of the posters on the Forums. The basic guidelines are as follows:
2 Cautions for a specific behavior (Inflammatory/Flaming, for instance), then 1 TAC Warning (totalling 3 pulls for one behavior).
1 additional Caution for a specific behavior, then an additional TAC Warning (5 pulls consisting of 3 Cautions, 2 TAC Warnings).
TAC Warnings for each additional violation of a specific nature, which can lead to Lockout.
Each post removed as a Caution will include a current tally of the poster's pulls for that specific behavior (total of TAC Warnings and Cautions). Moderators will alert the Moderator Manager of those posters which qualify for review of their posting privileges.
It is our intention that this update be virtually invisible to the majority of our poster population which, overall, tends to police itself. However, it's a necessary evil to ensure that the GSIV Forums remain a place where posters can feel free to contribute their constructive ideas and thoughts without worrying about being harassed or intimidated.
Please feel free to contribute to discussion about this update in the Forums Discussions topic, located in the Front Ends, Forums, and Computer Help category.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR YOUR SECURITY
Author: GS4-ZYLLAH
Date: 2/12/2008 1:11:45 AM
Simutronics does not endorse or encourage the sharing of account passwords. Almost all breaches of account security can be traced back to the sharing of an account password with another "trusted" individual. Passwords should never be given out to anyone, including family members. Simutronics is not liable for reparations when problems on an account occur due to a shared password. Simutronics staff members will never ask for an account password.
GameMasters conduct official GemStone IV business within the live game. Players have a responsibility to protect themselves by doing the same. If you are ever contacted outside of the live game by someone claiming to be a GameMaster, please inform them they must contact you within the game with their GameMaster persona displaying their GameMaster title. Typically, the only official business handled in emails is with Feedback or with GameMasters in charge of such systems as Weddings, the MHO, and the CHE. Even in those instances, if anything sounds questionable or suspicious, ask to meet the GameMaster in person in the game.
Abiding by the above two important policies will ensure that players can rest easy in knowing that their account and characters remain protected and secure. Each player is responsible for the security of his or her account.

CHANGES TO ENHANCEMENT RECHARGING AND ADVENTURER'S GUILD
Author: GS4-STRATHSPEY
Date: 8/28/2007 10:41:36 PM
MEMORANDUM
TO: All Treasure Masters
CC: Guild Headmasters
RE: Stimulating Business
We have good news and bad news. Bad news first.
As you know, this quarter's figures are off sharply, mostly due to a certain Guild principal's decision to "invest" half of our operational budget in Dragon Bones. Until her estates can be sold and the treasury remunerated, we are going to experiment with the elasticity of the incentive program. The desired effect is to fill more contracts in the near-term. Since the enhancive recharging service has the highest margin, we're going to start there.
Related to that, our bid to have proprietary control over the secrets of enhancive recharging was successful! This is thanks to the recovery and delivery of the last of the legendary Burkoi Rubies to our favorite Customers. Once again our association with them proves mutually beneficial. Kudos to our Adventurers involved in that effort.
SO, TO SUMMARIZE: Effective immediately, and lasting indefinitely, the bounty point cost to recharge our enhancive badges will be reduced by 20%. All other enhancive objects will have their costs reduced by 40%, since we've always made those so much more expensive to recharge. Also, all recharging of enhancive items will henceforth be available only through the Adventurer's Guild.
I'm looking forward to seeing next month's numbers from you all.
CFO
Enjoy.

TOWNS DECLARE MURDER BY ANIMATES A CRIME!
Author: GS4-NILVEN
Date: 8/12/2007 6:29:09 PM
Towns around Elanthia have proclaimed that using animated beings to murder someone within the confines of town will result in a murder charge, as if the offending necromancer had done the deed by his own hand. These developments are likely in response to the events that have taken place around Wehnimer's Landing and Darkstone Castle over the past several weeks. Many local politicians and law enforcement agents have professed somewhat of a distaste for necromancers as of late.

Points, Flares, and Armor Accessories
Author: GS4-VARULV
Date: 7/13/2007 4:18:31 PM
The question has recently arisen as to whether armor accessories can be flared via premium points. The answer is that they can, and they will be treated, for purposes of determining cost, as +20 items. Adding flares to such accessories will thus be 1500 points (unless they have an enchant greater than +20, in which case the usual costs for adding flares apply).
PCALC has been updated to take this policy into account.

POLICY 18
Author: GS4-KHALADON
Date: 2/8/2007 10:17:21 PM
It was brought to our attention some time back that the penalties associated with being in violation of POLICY 18 (AFK scripting) were not in line with the GemStone IV experience model, and other game developements, so the senior staff reviewed and updated the POLICY.
Please take note of it by typing POLICY 18 in game.

Account Sharing
Author: DR-LOCKOUT
Date: 11/14/2006 7:49:26 PM
This has been said before, but based on the past two weeks it obviously needs to be said again. Don't share your account. If we find someone using your account who has been terminated or is locked out, youraccount will also be terminated or locked out.
As the account holder, you are responsible for what happens on, and who uses, your account. If they use your account and do something to get the account locked out, it's you who doesn't get to play.
If you are sharing your account, I strongly reccomend changing your password right now. There are going to be accounts that will be barred, and changing the password and not giving it out will be taken into consideration.

Expanded Paid Restoral Process Time Limit Reminder
Author: SIMU-ANTAVIAN
Date: 10/23/2006 12:43:38 PM
Hello everyone. Since the Expanded Paid Restoral rules were released to allow customers to revert their converted Paladin back to their original Cleric/Warrior on August 1, 2006, we have reverted seven characters back to their original professions.
This posting is to remind those who have a character they converted prior to August 1, 2006 and have been contemplating reverting their character back that you only have eight (8) days left (October 31, 2006) in which to submit your request or this option will no longer be available.
- Characters converted prior to August 1, 2006 have until October 31, 2006 in which to submit their request or lose their option to revert.
- Characters converted between August 1, 2006 and October 31, 2006 will have 90 days from their converted date in which to submit their request for reversion else they will lose this option.
- Characters who are converted after October 31, 2006 will only have 30 days from the date of conversion in which to submit their request.
If you've been considering and debating reverting your character back to their original Cleric/Warrior, your time is running short. Once you are outside of your specified cycle, you will be stuck with the Paladin character unless you choose to reroll/retire them and recreate them as the original profession.
If you have any questions regarding this process, feel free to e-mail them to me at restore@simutronics.com. Thank you.
Edit - More information about the Paid Character Restoral and Reversion policies can be found at https://www.play.net/gs4/cservice/permarestoral_policy.asp. Added due to popular request.

Just In time for Ebon Gate -- ALTER 13 Update
Author: GS4-ANDRASTE
Date: 10/19/2006 12:56:37 AM
Added to ALTER 13: Metals and Materials the following information:
Cloth of gold (and platinum or silver) is created when metal thread is woven into the warp of linen, wool, or silk fabric. Ductible metals that allow threading include vaalin and veniom, although due to its ability to lighten what it is incorporated into, cloth of veniom is a very rare fabric only available in limited quantity and by special merchants.
Basically, what this means is that a merchant will honor clothing alteration requests for:
cloth of gold
cloth of silver
cloth of platinum
cloth of vaalin
Special merchants, those who have the ability to lighten items, may offer a very limited ability to work with cloth of veniom. They will pre-announce the ability to do such work.
This subject was originally announced in Elanthian Fashion. Please visit that top to review discussion.
