I just got back from the pre-Con meeting with the hotel and I have a few things to talk about!
1) The ENTIRE hotel is NON-SMOKING! The General Manager of the hotel wants to make sure that everyone is aware of this and it's not something they're just doing. This is a Sheraton mandate. Please understand that there are no smoking areas anywhere inside the building. They have arranged a smoking area outside for us (better than the Parking Lot Corral last year, not quite as good as the Chalet Patio), so that and the designated areas outside the lobby in the carport/breezeway areas are where you need to smoke. He wants me to remind everyone that smoking in your rooms will results in a $200 charge and smoking in the hotel area itself can result in the CON being fined, so please, don't get yourself (or us) in trouble?
2) Wired Internet access in the guest rooms for SimuCon Attendees is free but they wanted to say that when you log into the system, it may warn you of a charge. Just click "OK" to accept the charge, as it will be comped on your bill. If, by some chance, you get charged on your bill, they will (of course) take care of that when you check out. Wi-Fi access in the hotel itself is also free.
3) In addition to the Drunken Fish Discount, Ozzies Sports Bar will be offering a 10% Discount to participants of Simucon 2008. You will have to bring in a flyer that they printed up and gave to the hotel, but the hotel will make those available at check-in and if you need another, I'm sure you can pick one up.
4) Housekeeping wanted to let us know that while they have worked out a plan to not going to start cleaning rooms for your group until 2:00pm (they know we like to stay up late and sleep in), they will not have Housekeeping Services available to clean rooms after 4:00pm. If you have your Do Not Disturb sign out past 4pm, your room will not be cleaned until the following day (provided your do not disturb sign is not out)! However, you can always call for more towels, etc. and that will not be a problem to get them after 4pm.
I think that's it, for now!
We'll see you in a couple days!

This humble site houses an archive of news and announcements from Simutronics Corporation's text-based massive multiplayer online roleplaying game GemStone IV. The most recent announcements are on the entry page and a more comprehensive archive can be accessed through the links on the right sidebar. You may also narrow the focus through the various labels on the lower righthand side of this page. Click on the title of each post for the original post in the official GSIV message boards. Keep in mind, however, that if the post had been pushed out of the official boards, the link will take you to the GemStone IV announcements folder.

SimuCon Discussion Groups

We noticed that a number of people had responded to our recent poll on the website, "What GemStone IV topic would you like to learn about most at SimuCon?" with "none of the above - let us know in the Discussions with Simutronics folder" as their answer. In fact, at 16% as of this posting, that answer is tied with Monks as the biggest desire, which isn't terribly surprising given that it's a catchall.
However, no one has posted to tell us specifically what they want to hear about.
Our discussion groups at SimuCon are going to cover a lot of ground, so there's room for almost everything you want to know.
Please tell us here.
Thanks,
Auchand

Con-Wide Game
Author: SIMU-SOLOMON
Date: 7/10/2008 4:48:39 PM
We're doing a Con-Wide game this year, open for any and all attendees.
I am not going to post the list, but the game itself will be a Photo Scavenger Hunt.
I suggest, therefore, that if you want to play along and you have a digital camera that you bring it or borrow one if you don't. Any kind will work, be it an SLR, a point and shoot, or even one from your cell phone.

SimuCon: Beer and Booze?
Author: SIMU-SOLOMON
Date: 7/9/2008 4:42:04 PM
The hotel F&B Folks want to know if anyone has any special requests for beer or alcohol that they might not already carry or that they might not carry enough of.
If you are attending the Con and have any special requests, please post over on the SimuCon boards so I can compile a list and let them know?

SimuCon Baseball Game, Part Deux
Author: SIMU-SOLOMON
Date: 6/16/2008 3:55:52 PM
OK...here's the latest info:
First off, the game on Thursday the 7th is at 1:15 vs the LA Dodgers. The only other game we could even THINK about going to is Wednesday the 6th at 7:15, but that's really not a good option, so Thursday looks like our opportunity to go.
Now, as far as tickets go, I spoke to the lady at the stadium today and she said there are a good number of seats available in the Champion's Club.
Info from the Cardinals' Website says:
The place to be in 2008 is the all new Champions Club. Enjoy an upscale buffet, two full service bars with lots of flatscreen TVs, plus a great view of the game from the suite level along the left field line.
You'll have access to the air-conditioned indoor club area, plus a great view from your outdoor reserved seats. This new Club can be purchased individually or for larger groups.
AMENITIES
* Tickets sold individually, Champions Club accommodates up to 382
* A two-and-a-half-hour all-you-can-eat buffet which includes pasta and carving stations
* Exclusive access to Club lounge
* Two full-service bar areas, featuring lots of flatscreen TVs
* Private entrances and restrooms
* Buffet begins one hour prior to scheduled game time
* Bar service begins one-and-a-half hours prior to scheduled game time and is available throughout the game
* Reserved outdoor seating
So...free food....free beer....free alcohol...
Tickets are $120 each.
We do NOT have to have a certain number of people to get this deal, but they only have room for another 40-50 people. We could just say "Get your own tickets", but the rep advised me that the best course of action is to buy them all at once in order to prevent someone else from coming in and snatching up all the tickets and our group only ending up with a few people lucky enough to get in.
So if you want in, you need to let me know ASAP!
Please email simu-solomon@play.net and put SIMUBALL as the subject of your email. This will COMMIT you to buying a ticket (or however many you want). There will be NO refunds. If you email me and commit to attending and cannot make the game (or the Con), you will be responsible for selling your own ticket. We will help out if we can, but the onus falls on you to get rid of the ticket. If you can't find someone to use it, the billing method you have on record with us WILL be charged.
I will purchase the tickets like I did last year and then we'll make arrangements to collect payment before or during the Con.
Let me know ASAP!

VegasCon: Just Weeks Away!
Author: GS4-AUCHAND
Date: 2/19/2008 1:46:03 PM
Join me, if you will, in picturing a fantastical region. Skyscrapers and golden palaces dot the landscape. Fountains many times the height of a man adorn the walks. A great pyramid of black glass is within walking distance of a lush, tropical resort.
Now add a horde of GemStone players, revelry, and a curiously overpriced hoodie.
This, my friends, is VegasCon '08: Down to Chinatown.
My merry fantasia raises one question: why haven't you signed up yet? Tickets are available at the low early registration price of $51 until February 29th. Registration is required in order to access the suites and the goodies available therein, not to mention the many awesome events planned for this year's convention. VegasCon is your chance to meet your fellow players and GMs and have a great time with old friends.
Even better, we've graduated from the now-defunct New Frontier to a bigger and better residence at the South Point Hotel and Casino, complete with in-house theatre, bowling alley, and BINGO!
Registration is available through the box office:
https://www.play.net/gs4/quests/list_slots.asp?questID=122
When booking your rooms at the South Point, don't forget to use the group code of GS4 VEGASCON. (Your room rate should be $75/night Wednesday & Thursday and $110/night Friday and Saturday.) VegasCon takes place from the 19th-23rd of March, 2008.
See you there!

Important Info About SimuCon
Author: SIMU-SOLOMON
Date: 7/11/2007 2:03:04 PM
Those folks who have signed up for SimuCon, in addition to having a warm fuzzy glow of excitement surrounding them in real life, will notice that they have a special title accessible to their characters:
DR Prime: Socialite
DR Plat: Executive Socialite
GS Prime/Plat: Reveler
Don't forget that several attendees are going to walk away with some pretty spiffy gear (Toshiba Laptop, Zune MP3 Player, Sony Digital Camera, and a Wii, among other things), but even more importantly, if you aren't a registered attendee, you will NOT be allowed to participate in any events (this includes roundtable discussions, access to the Hospitality Suite, games, contests, parties, State of Elanthia, etc.).
In addition, the attending GMs' time will be focused entirely toward registered attendees, so do not expect to just "show up" and be able to hang out with the GMs if you aren't registered for the Convention.
There's still time to sign up! But don't delay!

Lots of people are asking...
Author: GS4-SOLOMON
Date: 1/30/2007 4:11:36 PM
So lemme 'splain...
We are in an interesting position this year. Probably even moreso than last year.
As pretty much everyone knows (we know you know because people keep reminding us), we took last year off from doing a Con because everything in the office was so hectic and crazy because of all the work on Hero's Journey. The idea was that we'd take time off and by this year, we'd all be in grand shape to have a Con and, most likely, have HJ out the door and the Con would be insanely huge.
Then, something weird happened. As we talked to more publishers about HJ, they kept asking what engine we were using. When we told them which engines we looked at, tried, and ultimately passed over, choosing to make our own, they wanted to see it. Then the really weird thing happened because then they started wanting to buy it. So on a whim, we went to the Game Developers Conference and showed off Hero Engine and then the floodgates opened. Since last year's GDC, we've had at least one (and as many as 4) companies here at the Simutronics Compound each month and/or had an Away Team flying out to another company's offices to give demos. Many of you also know we signed our first licensing deal with BioWare, who will be using Hero Engine on their upcoming game, but we have also got several other deals already in various stages of completion which you'll find out about soon.
So now we're in a quandry, because NOW we're not only working on HJ and swamped, but now we're working on HE and even more swamped. HOWEVER...
We still want to do a Con because, frankly, we missed you guys last summer. :(
There are a lot of unknowns still. We don't know how big its going to be, mostly because we don't know how many of you are going to come. Part One of figuring that out starts now, since I'm putting up a poll that will ask you to choose between some potential Con dates and we'll go from there. Our Planning Committee is going to be a lot smaller this year (like...just me, for right now) so I'll be asking for and relying on GMs and some of you guys to help out in certain areas, but for now, let's start by figuring out when we're gonna do this thing!
The poll is up so everyone, please take a moment to answer it, even if you aren't going to make it!
