Holy Receptacle (325) and Shrines

Author: GS4-ESTILD
Date: 11/13/2008 9:52:53 PM

Shrines will now provide a bonus or penalty for Clerics when they BLESS a gem to create a holy receptacle (325). Being in a shrine of the Cleric's deity will provide the greatest benefit. Being in a shrine of another deity who is aligned with the Cleric's deity will provide a smaller benefit. And being in a shrine of another deity who is opposed to the Cleric's deity will provide a penalty.

Magical Workshops will no longer provide a bonus to success.

Minor failure, as defined by the gem not exploding, will no longer prevent the gem from being sold to a gem shop.

MHO and CHE Fair This Weekend!

Author: GS4-KORELYS
Date: 11/13/2008 3:09:10 PM

Are you looking for a place to belong? Are you curious about one of the many CHEs and MHOs that operate in Elanthia?

On Friday evening at 9pm ET, a path will open up in all three Silverwood Manor courtyards (Wehnimer's Landing, Ta'Vaalor, and Icemule Trace). The path will lead to a clearing on the grounds of Silverwood Manor, where various MHOs and CHEs have put up tents offering refreshments and information about their organizations.

A few individual events will be held over the course of the weekend -- check the calendar for details. This is a chance to meet individuals from various organizations, and decide if one of them may be right for you!

Feel free to email GS4-Korelys@play.net with questions.

Clothing Updates, Round Two

Author: GS4-LUSUS
Date: 11/5/2008 2:11:53 PM
In response to various feedback and re-thinking in the weeks since the new clothing upgrades were released, the following new changes have been made:

1. Four Winds teleport items will no longer be counted as functional items.

2. Items that hold 2 pounds or less and 2 items or less (such as most bodices, shirts, dresses, pants) will no longer be counted as functional items. This applies to items that are worn on the back, shoulders, legs, torso, around the neck, attached to a belt, or over the front. Merchants who offer lightening and deepening services may also now be able to offer to make item pockets smaller (within reason) so that they would fall under this new rule.

3. A new 'under-armor' slot has been created for a single non-functional item. An example of an item in this slot would be a gambeson.

4. The number of items that can be worn over the legs, over the arms or over the front has been increased to 2. This allows for up to one functional item and one fluff item or two fluff items in these positions.

5. A number of other minor bugs have also been resolved.

As with the previous round of updates, if you encounter an item that you believe should be 'fluff' but is showing up as functional, please place an ASSIST so that a GM may review your request.

Mayhem Masks

Author: GS4-THANDIWE
Date: 10/28/2008 8:45:15 PM

Greetings,

I meant to post this Sunday night, however, I've been a little busy.

The Mayhem Masks of Dame Cirri Strut can be found in the Lorminstra temple.

Now its time for some fun facts!

1) Mayhem masks shift between six different faces.

2) Males see one set of four, while Females see another set. (This is not broken!)

3) To ensure that a male does not wear a sprite, (or a female wears a troll) the masks shift when you wear them (Also not broken!)

4) The masks have two tiers. (Unlockable - or as Tiffidy said Unclickable!)

5) Two faces (the suede and wooden one) can be customized to YOUR specifications.

6) Any merchant can customize OR unlock the masks.

7) Each face of the mask has a loresong that is unique to it. The two customized masks do not. (Also not broken)

What Wrath Wind Wraiths Wrought.

Author: GS4-MESTYS
Date: 10/28/2008 6:08:10 PM

Following a long-deserved blessed boot to the incorporeal rear, the wind wraiths of the Wind Tunnel on Teras Isle have been converted to the Basic Critter System (BCS). This update has made the wind wraith a significantly more formidable opponent, with new messaging, a few new abilities, as well as the sheer fear mechanic inherent to undead creatures on the BCS.

Be prepared as you take the plunge over Lovers' Leap.

The Bank of Elanith

>> Withdraw account in form of silvers from whatever
>> bank you're using.
>> Walk to portal to EG, go through portal.
>> Walk to Velathae bank, deposit silvers.
>> OMG SO HARD!

I'll make it easier than that...

With the aid of the Merchant Consortium of Greater Elanith, the bank in Velathae will now draw funds from the account tied to the realm from which you enter the event.

I'll apologize to our Platinum players for not having this feature live this year, as I literally just thought of it tonight. (Before all of this discussion, I might add.)

Ta'Vaalor Happenings

Author: GS4-ALYIAS
Date: 10/23/2008 1:47:50 PM

>>I was wondering if anyone was going to bring up ol'Ansel :-)

Speaking of that, the Ansel system *didn't* go off like it was supposed to, so there was a bit more damage than there should have been. Plus there's investigations now as to why it didn't go off. Love and happiness is not at the workplace now.

So, first things second, the Guardian Keep opening and ball, along with the rest of my plans, is not cancelled. With EG here, I certainly don't want to run a ball at the same time, so I expect to it afterwards (likely the middle of November). Also, I suspect I will not be able to do it all in one weekend like I had originally planned, so likely the Platinum ball will come first, with the Prime one a week after that. Things are still up in the air, so please do be patient, and I'll post dates as soon as I can nail them down.

Regarding happenings around Vaalor, my current situation is going to put a crimp in it. I'm going to try very hard to timely continue the current storyline lead-ins (Yes, there IS one. Chatter on the boards to keep everyone interested!), and to continue to work on my planned releases, but again, please be patient. They will happen, just not on the timeframe I originally wanted to do them in.

Many thanks to you all.

The Narrative History of the Guardians of Sunfist

Author: GS4-SCRIBES
Date: 10/18/2008 8:35:07 PM

Based on a timeline and events devised by the awesome Oscuro, edited and QC'd by the excellent Xynwen, I provide to you the Narrative History of the Guardians of Sunfist :

The story of the Guardians of Sunfist, like so many in Elanthia, began several thousands of years ago. Deep beneath the earth, it began far from the sight of elves and men, in a war fought over generations. Orc and dwarf struggled for control of the vast underground and the nearly limitless riches it possessed in a conflict that lasted nearly ten thousand years. Out of this epic war a hero emerged, the dwarf Overking Khazi Khazar, founder of the dwarven empire and builder of the legendary city of Kalaza. Greatness rarely walks alone, however, and by his side stood his closest friend and most able general, Angustan Ghesta.

The facts of Angustan Ghesta's youth have been lost, overshadowed by the many myths and hearth-tales surrounding his legend. It is known that Ghesta rose quickly within the ranks of the dwarf armies, due to skill and the violent attrition of the devastating Orc Wars. Not content with the static fighting techniques developed thousands of years earlier, Ghesta developed a new method of combat, taking advantage of the battlefield's natural terrain of mountains and tunnels. His men, trained in this new style of war, wrought devastating defeats upon the orcs and by virtue of his success, Ghesta came to the attention of the rising dwarf king Khazar, and a lifelong friendship was formed.

To Ghesta, Khazar gave the finest of his soldiers to train in the new style of warfare, and thus the storied First Legion of Khazar was born. The legion embodied the finest of dwarven warfare and was given the mission of protecting Khazar, and later, the line of dwarf Overkings. For thousands of years, the First Legion performed its duty, its members constituting the finest of the dwarven race. Under its banner the greatest threats were driven away from the tunnels and undergrounds of the dwarves. So great was the victory, that amongst the orcs and mountain giants, the Legion's emblem was identified with death. Some have gone so far to claim that the word for death in the orc tongue in this present era evolved from the name of the First Legion in the old orcish.

It was of no surprise then, that when the darkness of Despana fell across Elanthia, and the tragedy of ShadowGuard burned the elven soul, that the Overking Gerfroth Khazar selected a great number of the First Legion of Khazar to go forth in battle to answer the plea of help from the East. There was much courage at the Battle of Maelshyve, but also much sorrow, as even the finest warriors are mortal. Only a quarter of those who had left the underground realm returned, and the songs sung in memoriam for the fallen were soon forgotten in the tragedy that befell the dwarves after Maelshyve.

The Red Rot swept through the city of Kalaza and killed far more dwarves than any dark army might aspire, including Gerfroth Khazar. For thousands of years, the First Legion of Khazar had protected the line of Overkings, but with the death of Gerfroth, the line was broken, and Kalaza was sealed, a tomb to her people and to the Overkings. Without home or duty, the First Legion dissolved, its surviving members dispersing to those places thought free of Despana's Revenge.

The largest number of the surviving members belonged to the Toktrog Clan, those dwarves who, led by some innate desire to travel, had often been the natural scouts of the First Legion. As time passed and old ways were lost, only the Toktrog Clan retained the knowledge and fighting techniques of Angustan Ghesta and his First Legion of Khazar. Over the next several centuries, the Toktrogs coupled their magical curiosity and aptitude with their battle-lore and knowledge. Other clans oft held the Toktrog in awe, not realizing that their seemingly miraculous abilities as scouts came in part due to the use of dwarven knowledge other clans had allowed to be forgotten. For under the Toktrog eye, few paths were hidden, and nary an enemy camp left undiscovered. Had the Toktrog Clan been selfish or untowardly protective of their secrets, the present era would have been a different reality, one of more pain and death. However, the Toktrog were of better quality.

It was the autumn of the Sunfist Compact when the legacy of Angustan Ghesta and the First Legion once again began to be taught on a wider scale. In an unprecedented move for dwarves, born from a newfound alliance and trust, the Toktrog shared Ghesta's legacy not just with other dwarves, but with the giantmen as well. Word spread quickly amongst the soldiers of the two races, and increasingly, warriors of the giantmen and the dwarves sought out the practitioners of the First Legion's art for training. So great were their numbers that the dwarves and their giantman allies decided to once again establish the First Legion of Khazar under a new name and banner, the Guardians of Sunfist.

This new society of giantman and dwarf flourished, but on a limited scale. For as much as the techniques of the Guardians of Sunfist attracted warriors of the two races, those who taught it belonged to nomadic clans and to find them and the society required extensive traveling. As a result, the powerful lessons of the Guardians were often restricted to those who shared the nomadic life. However, the fate of the society was not to be of limited reach, for Elanthia changes as monumental events strike our world, as they did in eons past. And change came yet again in the fifty-first century with the return of a forgotten nightmare and G'bruk.

In 5103, nary a realm of Elanthia was without crisis. In the west, deadly morphing creatures plagued the human empire and struck terror in the halfling populations of the north. In the east, the elves were beset by undead terrors and a war that threatened the very balance of life and death. And in the middle of this ever-tightening vise, the dwarves suffered from the rediscovery of a nightmare long thought relegated to unspoken history, the Red Rot. As the disease spread through the dwarven populations, yet another threat beset the people of the Underground. Trolls, in the throes of a mass eastwardly migration, trekked in enormous numbers through the dwarven mountains under the blue comet and spiritual banner of G'bruk.

It was in this time of crises, the Guardians of Sunfist decided to establish a permanent base of operations, a place to train all dwarves and giantmen, regardless of clan or lifestyle. The great dwarven hub of Zul Logoth was selected as the site of the base, perfect in its location in the center of the DragonSpine and as a defensive shield against any foe.

Like many great tales, the crisis that had so consumed Elanthia, which had spurred the Guardians to place themselves in Zul Logoth, were ended not by the actions of many, but that of a few. Before the training of thousands of dwarves and giantmen was complete, the time of strife had mercifully passed. In the process, the Guardians of Sunfist had been changed. From the nomadic society formed in the dawn of Sunfist, the Guardians of Sunfist had risen as the modern protectors not just of dwarves, but of all peoples, and thus, they opened their doors, their knowledge, and their lore to all. Begun with a singular dwarf, companion to a legendary king, revitalized on an autumn hill, and re-envisioned during Elanthia's time of greatest need, the Guardians of Sunfist now carry on their training, open to all to learn, for all to protect.

Ebon Gate Will Give You Friends.

Author: GS4-AUCHAND
Date: 10/15/2008 9:18:29 PM

That's right, folks. Ebon Gate will give you friends, if you can find the sneaky merchant Ilixil. Consider this your EG teaser from me.

When I say 'friends,' I'm talking about lizards. Made out of shadow. That don't eat no stinkin' crickets. Don't believe me? Take a look:

Twitching and shuddering at odd intervals, the tiny creature appears to be little more than a shadow lent feeble substance. Its indigo-cored form wavers like a candle's flame, but the shade-shade-newt maintains a rough lizard shape augmented by odd, elongated limbs. Each of the six tendril-like legs spreads into a trio of tiny black talons. Twin pinpoints of cerulean luminescence shine from where the creature's eyes ought to be.

You gently probe the body of the indigo shade-newt. As your fingers press against its oily-slick skin, tiny aurorae ripple outward from the point of contact. They limn the nearby flesh in mother-of-pearl hues that are slow to fade.

Oh, yeah. Did I mention you can also force them to dwell in your skin? In. Your. Skin.

Bards utilizing Traveler's Song to get out of sticky situations will find much more success in landing safely at a drinking establishment, with more noticable leniency at lower levels. The base failure rate for the spellsong remains the same.

Sing gladly with the knowledge that your chance of arriving safely is increased, but keep your pockets filled with silver to pay for those drinks after the trip.

Spell Nativity

Author: GS4-ESTILD
Date: 10/13/2008 9:06:41 PM

As previously announced a few months ago, all spell circles will now test for nativity when determining lore benefits. When calculating lore ranks, it will now use effective lore ranks, which is calculated by determining if the spell is native to the caster. If the spell is not, then Major spell circles will apply a divisor of 2 and Profession spell circles will apply a divisor of 3. Mana Controls will also test nativity and apply a divisor of 2 to all outside casters (although Raise Dead (318) is exempt from this rule). Minor spell circles are not subject to this design. For example, if a Sorcerer was casting Bless Item (304) from a scroll, only 1/3 of their Spiritual Lore, Blessings lore ranks would count for the lore benefit. Enhancive items which grant spell knowledge do consider the caster as knowing the spell, so full lore ranks do count.

In addition, some spells were previously not providing the full documented spell duration when invoked from a magical item or an arcane symbol (especially Ranger spells). This has now been normalized for all spells.

MIST HARBOR PRESENTS RAINDAY TREASURES

Author: GS4-THANDIWE

Wind and rain have kept many of the Mist Harbor merchants trapped in their homes and shops, the weather making it impossible to enjoy the normal summer and autumn fun that they would be partaking. As a result, each merchant has designed a variety of items that they are releasing to the public tonight! It is their joint hope that this display of their talents will encourage more adventurers to visit the Isle and buy their wares.

OOC: If you adjourn to the various Four Wind tents, Member's Only facilities, and Halls you will find that the transportation jewelry tables have been updated. Enjoy!

I just wanted to pop in and mention that as of last week, both Warden and Andraste reached their 10 year mark as GemStone GMs.

Thank you both very much for everything you do. Our world wouldn't be the same without either of you.

Platinum Tiered Tickets - Eve of the Reunion Festival

Author: GS4-KAIKALA
Date: 9/22/2008 9:22:45 PM
As an addendum to the earlier post regarding tiered tickets:

As of today, Platinum tickets will only be offered at the base price, where the single ticket purchase will allow account-wide access (read: all of your characters may enter) to the festival in the Platinum instance only.

If you purchased a ticket already for Platinum -- have no fear! -- full access to that instance will be in effect without your having to do anything extra.

Enjoy!

Tiered Tickets - Eve of the Reunion Festival

Author: GS4-KAIKALA
Date: 9/22/2008 12:34:35 AM
To put a little bit of clarity on the multi-character tickets offered this year for the Eve of the Reunion Festival, aka Ebon Gate (EG):

For each account, entrance to EG:
$40 for one character - the usual price
$55 for two characters to enter
$65 for three characters to enter
$75 for four characters to enter
(Add in the Premium discount if you are a Premium subscriber)

In the past, each account was forced to choose only one character to allow into a ticketed event. This year, we thought it would be worthwhile to allow the option of bringing multiple characters from one account into EG, so that you are able to bring several of your personalities. Since $80 for just two characters seemed more than a bit steep, the tiered system was put into place.

There are no restrictions in terms of what profession or race you bring in. Just like with any other pay event, there will be a few raffles and merchants that fit one character type better than another, as well as possible restrictions on some raffle entries/merchant services. Some GMs will post more specific information in the EG forums, though some services will, as usual, remain a surprise up until event time.

Any restrictions on numbers of wins per account are at each individual GM's discretion for the raffles and merchants that they run, though said GM is responsible for clearly posting such restrictions on raffle tickets and merchant signs.

As a note, this type of event ticketing system has been suggested in the past by both players and GMs. This event's particular push for it originated from a player's suggestion during Simucon!

We hope those of you who have wanted this option in the past are able to enjoy it this festival. Any feedback and comments are appreciated.

TONIGHT'S TA'VAALOR BALL POSTPONED

Author: GS4-LIIA
Date: 9/20/2008 4:44:10 PM
I just heard from GM Alyias, who asked me to post that due to unfortunate RL circumstances involving a tree, a windstorm, and the wrath of both of these on his power, phone, and cable lines, tonight's gala will unfortunately need to be rescheduled.

He asked me to convey his regrets, and knows that many folks scheduled to be here at this time. With that in mind, he wishes that if there are specific times/dates that would be convenient for the rescheduled ball, please let him know!

Thanks,

Mayhem Troupe Returns

Reports have traveled from abroad about the ebon wagon that is glimpsed amongst the sunset hues of autumn leaves. Riding far and wide, the wagon is that of the legendary family group known as the Magical Mayhem Troupe.

Last seen passing into the Shireland and approaching the Northern Steppes, the legendary troupe has not returned home to the Human Empire in nearly two hundred years. The performance company is formed up of family members who pass on their talents from generation to generation and have gained world notoriety.

Known primarily for their marionette shows, the troupe also holds vast talents in entertainment magics, juggling, jester acts, lively mask creation, and fantastical operettas. Though the troupe has made no stops yet on its return trip, it is highly anticipated that the troupe will once again perform.

The Old Ball & Chain.

Author: GS4-MESTYS
Date: 9/17/2008 8:52:22 PM
Due to certain issues with item names containing ampersands, the weapon conversion chambers that inhabit most of the weapon shops across Elanthia have been updated to handle weapons with the noun "ball & chain." Placing such weapons within the chambers will convert them to the more parser-friendly "ball and chain."

The random weapon generator and a few permanent shops have also been altered to no longer produce ball & chain items.

75 new recipes have been added to the alchemy system. This represents a fraction of new recipes to come over the next few weeks. Training NPCs will start teaching these new recipes immediately.

In addition, most alchemy products created from this point forward will now be purchased by the alchemist shop in local towns. Items which are part of the normal treasure system (e.g. oak wands, white crystals...) will be purchased by the pawn shop.

Please post in the appropriate topic if there are any huge issues.

Enjoy!

Searing Light (135) Released!

Author: GS4-OSCURO
Date: 9/10/2008 7:32:23 PM

Developed initially by the Council of Mages for defense of The Citadel during its fall to the troll and krolvin alliance, the Searing Light spell was lost to greater Elanthia for over a thousand years. Recently, a tome was discovered in a previously hidden portion of The Citadel outside River's Rest that once again unlocked the knowledge for the spiritualists of Elanthia to harness.

Spiritual magic is closely aligned with light. In fact, the Spirit Realm is teeming with areas that are overwhelmingly bright. It is this powerful light that the spiritual caster is able to summon with the Searing Light spell. An enormous flash of brilliant light fills the area subjecting all beings not grouped with the caster to a warding check. Failure results in light to moderate plasma damage, and for those targets that can see, blinding flash burns to their eyes. This blinding effect causes the target to lose any prepared spell, as well as suffer immense difficulty casting any newly prepared spell. Additionally, it is much easier to evade, block and parry the attacks of a blinded target and to avoid maneuvers that they attempt.

Duration: 10 seconds + 1 second per 5 warding margin; capped at 20 seconds

River's Rest Hunting Expansion!

Author: GS4-SCRIBES
Date: 9/9/2008 10:55:05 PM

The town of River's Rest cannot escape its past as new threats and dangers arise in the small backwater of the County of Torre. Intrepid investigators from the Hall of Mages, the premier center of magic discovery and education in the Turamzzyrian Empire, with the assistance of knowledgeable natives, have pulled back a curtain from the darker elements of the town's history in search of ancient lore. What has been revealed cannot again be hidden. What has been unearthed must be confronted. In the marshes and bogs to the northeast of the town stands a keep inhabited by the monstrous and the unnatural. In an ancient fortress, long left to the accumulation of dust, new guardians roam accompanied by the last creations of magical desperation. Like two towers of old, they cast their shadow over the town, adding to its isolation and loneliness, to the nightmares that plague the children of the Warren, while beckoning the town's bravest defenders. It is now left to the most daring or foolhardy adventurers to go forward into the marsh or to cross the ravine to challenge the old evils that have risen from the past.

The Marsh Keep and the Citadel have been opened as new hunting expansions for the town of River's Rest. The Marsh Keep can be found deep in the bog outside the town across Maelstrom Bay and covers levels 44-54 consistenting primarily of undead foes. The Citadel has been expanded and repopulated (its old residents moved and removed) with undead foes covering levels 54-62.

Happy hunting!

A Twist of Roses: Raffles

Author: GS4-XYNWEN
Date: 9/7/2008 12:11:49 AM

Yfane, Auvyra, and Caelesta have been traveling for months and missed their summer raffle. As we move into autumn, they have decided to combine summer and autumn's raffles into one extravaganza. As such, their minions have placed some raffles in the antechamber of their store, A Twist of Roses, in Ta'Illistim.

Items are being raffled individually and include two forehead gems and two Yfane gowns. Caelesta is still overly fatigued from their journey, but raffle off a full feature alter or two in future days.

The raffles are set to run for just under three days, so you have ample time to get a ticket.

OOC REMINDER: You must be logged into the game to win. I will try to be around to distribute prizes at the time of raffling, but I cannot guarantee it. Since I can't guarantee I'll be there to hand it to you, I won't make you be awake and ready to take delivery! In other words, it's perfectly okay to be afk at a table or somewhere out of the way (and preferably private and safe). I'll track you down.

For people who are already aware of this, there is one correction to my previously stated information. Apparently by design, flares are unlimited per person, instead of one per day. So, flare away, while you still can!

Dateline 8/25/2008: GRAND BALL ANNOUNCED TO HERALD OPENING OF GUARDIAN KEEP!

Author: GS4-ALYIAS
Date: 8/25/2008 12:47:04 AM

King Tyrnian Vaalor is pleased to announce a royal ball on the occasion of the newly-renovated Guardian Keep. Due to the importance and scale of this event, the elven king will magnanimously allow all members of the populace to attend.

Guardian Keep, long an emblem of Ta'Vaalor's might and majesty, had been long closed to the public. King Tyrnian has expressed hopes that the opening of the keep allows the general population to more closely experience the glory of his people.

All guests are expected to dress in formal attire. Slovenly appearance or behavior shall not be tolerated.

The ball will be held on Feastday, the 20th day of Imaerasta, in the year 5108 (September 20th - Prime). An encore of the ball will be held on Restday, the 21st day of Imaerasta, in the year 5108 (September 21st - Platinum). For both evenings, the ball will commence at 9:00 PM, ET.

Koar's Temple Opens its Doors

Author: GS4-AUCHAND
Date: 8/17/2008 1:36:46 PM

After being closed for many years, the Fane of the God-King has opened in Solhaven. All are bid welcome to the Temple, which is Solhaven's largest place of worship.

It should be noted that there are two unusual aspects to the Koar Temple:

1) The entry arch strips those who approach of all their spells.

2) Upon entrance to the prayer plaza, your eyes will be drawn to the dais. Everyone within the plaza can see actions occurring on the dais. If you wish to hold a religious ceremony, worshipers can see what you are doing from anywhere within the plaza or the 'highwalk.'

Enjoy!

We had a TON of entries and I was amazed at how many good quality critters you all were able to crank out!

Our winner from GemStone submitted several creatures that were consistently of really good quality, but the one that Mestys gave the final thumbs up was:

SimuCon Update

Author: SIMU-SOLOMON
Date: 8/4/2008 4:54:32 PM
I just got back from the pre-Con meeting with the hotel and I have a few things to talk about!

1) The ENTIRE hotel is NON-SMOKING! The General Manager of the hotel wants to make sure that everyone is aware of this and it's not something they're just doing. This is a Sheraton mandate. Please understand that there are no smoking areas anywhere inside the building. They have arranged a smoking area outside for us (better than the Parking Lot Corral last year, not quite as good as the Chalet Patio), so that and the designated areas outside the lobby in the carport/breezeway areas are where you need to smoke. He wants me to remind everyone that smoking in your rooms will results in a $200 charge and smoking in the hotel area itself can result in the CON being fined, so please, don't get yourself (or us) in trouble?

2) Wired Internet access in the guest rooms for SimuCon Attendees is free but they wanted to say that when you log into the system, it may warn you of a charge. Just click "OK" to accept the charge, as it will be comped on your bill. If, by some chance, you get charged on your bill, they will (of course) take care of that when you check out. Wi-Fi access in the hotel itself is also free.

3) In addition to the Drunken Fish Discount, Ozzies Sports Bar will be offering a 10% Discount to participants of Simucon 2008. You will have to bring in a flyer that they printed up and gave to the hotel, but the hotel will make those available at check-in and if you need another, I'm sure you can pick one up.

4) Housekeeping wanted to let us know that while they have worked out a plan to not going to start cleaning rooms for your group until 2:00pm (they know we like to stay up late and sleep in), they will not have Housekeeping Services available to clean rooms after 4:00pm. If you have your Do Not Disturb sign out past 4pm, your room will not be cleaned until the following day (provided your do not disturb sign is not out)! However, you can always call for more towels, etc. and that will not be a problem to get them after 4pm.

I think that's it, for now!

We'll see you in a couple days!

The following updates have been made to the warcamp system:

-The treasure mechanics of the warcamp system have been significantly revamped. Previously, the communal loot chest (in the supply huts) produced treasure more or less randomly. It has been changed to produce treasure scaled to the level and number of warcamp creatures killed in that warcamp by the person searching through it. Keys to this chest are now always randomly generated by the treasure system when looting the bodies of warcamp creatures.

-The rate of warcamp creature population increase has been significantly slowed.

-The rank 15 Guardians of Sunfist requirement to raze 15 warcamps has been reduced to 5 required razings.

-The Guardians of Sunfist taskmasters will now handle experience awards in a fashion identical to Adventurer Guild taskmasters.

-A ranked list of Guardians of Sunfist masters with the most prestige points is now on display in each society outpost.

SimuCon Discussion Groups

Author: GS4-AUCHAND
Date: 8/1/2008 2:14:50 PM

We noticed that a number of people had responded to our recent poll on the website, "What GemStone IV topic would you like to learn about most at SimuCon?" with "none of the above - let us know in the Discussions with Simutronics folder" as their answer. In fact, at 16% as of this posting, that answer is tied with Monks as the biggest desire, which isn't terribly surprising given that it's a catchall.

However, no one has posted to tell us specifically what they want to hear about.

Our discussion groups at SimuCon are going to cover a lot of ground, so there's room for almost everything you want to know.

Please tell us here.

Thanks,

Auchand

ISP Maintenance Tonight!

Author: SIMU-SOLOMON
Date: 7/28/2008 4:25:16 PM

SAVVIS (that's our ISP) has identified an issue with a network device that aggregates connections (that's you!) to customer locations in the Saint Louis area (that's us!).

The maintenance will clear an error that, if not addressed, could (Could? Hah!) cause service related issues.

This maintenance is scheduled to begin at 00:01 CDT on 07/29/08 and will be completed by 05:00 CDT on 07/29/08. In this window, SAVVIS engineers will be replacing defective hardware from a local backbone router.

Customers (that's us! and you!) may experience service outages (down!), latency (lag!), or other connectivity issues (dropped!) as the work is completed.

In response to requests from the populace at large, Ta'Vaalor's guards have undergone sensitivity training--with mixed success. Some of the guards have learned to open up and reveal more of their personalities, while others seem to have become less friendly in response!

What does this mean to you? Each of the Vaalor guards has developed a unique name and personality, and will respond to your questions accordingly. Have fun getting to know them!

Problems Creating New Characters

Author: SIMU-SOLOMON
Date: 7/16/2008 2:40:39 PM

There seems to be something misconfigured somewhere between the Website, the Game, and the Billing Database that is currently preventing people from creating a new character in GemStone.

We're currently tracking down someone to look into the problem (without having to resort to waking up the Tech who stayed at the office all night, after working all day yesterday too, migrating the Billing DB over to the new server, since he's earned a short nap, at the very least).

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to have the issue resolved ASAP!

Author: SIMU-SOLOMON

So, I was FLOODED with entries! Thanks so much! This is going to be fun and the decision will be a tough one!

I'm going to enlist a couple of folks to help me out in looking over all of them, but in the meantime, I wanted to pop over and make sure to ask that you update each of your creatures on your Spore page to make sure it includes GemStone and GS4 in the "tags" section, just in case other players or entrants want to peek at your stuff.

I'll be asking the DR players to do the same in case anyone wants to peek at those, too! :)

On Wednesday, July 16, our On-site Techs will be migrating the Billing Database over to their new servers, beginning at approximately 3:00 AM Eastern and ending at approximately 11:00 AM Eastern.

No new logins will be possible during this 8-hour time-period, however, any customers who are already logged in to any game should remain logged in, although some in-game services related to account status (i.e., checking Premium Time, for example) may be unavailable.

In addition, the entire website (including Forums, Account Services, etc.) will be down during this time.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Imaera's Glade Revised, et al!

Author: GS4-AUCHAND
Date: 7/14/2008 2:57:47 PM

Due to several generous donations from the savvy merchants of the Mercantylers' Guild, the Green Sisters of Imaera have seen fit to extend access to a previously private altar to Imaera in her aspect as the Harvest Goddess.

Harvest's Vigil is located immediately south of the Garden of Making.

Rumors around the city suggest that Paidreg Venquinor has finished moving into his new manor in Solhaven. With the destruction of his familial home and his parents' whereabouts still unknown, the manor has been christened "Venquinor House" and will stand as the official seat of his bloodline.

===

In clearer terms, there's a third altar to Imaera in her glade. Venquinor House will remain locked when its owner is not in residence, but expect some public gatherings there soon.

Alchemy Recipe Correction for 213 Potion: "How Pale Was My Moonstone"

Author: GS4-STRATHSPEY
Date: 7/14/2008 12:37:09 AM

Due to an error on my part, an alchemy recipe for a Minor Sanctuary sprinkling oil was released which called for "powdered blue moonstone". The recipe has been corrected and the ingredient changed to "powdered pale blue moonstone", which was what was originally intended. As always, see the NPC training masters (not the task administrators) in your local guild and ask them to update your tomes and recipe pages if they are now in error. I regret any inconvenience this has caused, and I caused any inconvenience that I'm now regretting.

Solhaven Presents... New Temples!

Author: GS4-AUCHAND
Date: 7/12/2008 2:16:20 PM

Solhaven's collective religious orders are pleased to welcome two brand new temples and a shrine into their ranks.

Eonak's Temple, having largely fallen into disrepair, was abandoned by the Order of Steel. Due to a deal brokered by Lord Paidreg Venquinor, the land was given to the Order of Voln, where they established a new outpost known as Fasthr's Lance.

Eonak's new religious site, the Temple of Industry, has been built with the aid of several local organizations. In gratitude, the Steel Priests granted leave for a memorial to those lost during the Griffin Sword War.

Significant overhauls have likewise been made to the enclave of the Green Sisters of Imaera, which is now linked to Eonak's by a very special garden.

---

Huge thanks to GameMaster Galene, who volunteered for and undertook the building of Imaera's Glade when I began these overhauls.

Enjoy!

Doubts, Dispelled?

Author: GS4-NAOS
Date: 7/11/2008 8:55:29 PM

Dateline 7/11/2008: DOUBTS, DISPELLED?

Perhaps, or perhaps not. Time will tell. Magic, on the other hand, certainly can be!

Powered by reworked core magic dispelling mechanics, 'new' mass dispel spells have been added to the Major Elemental and Major Spiritual spell circles. These, named Elemental Disjunction and Spiritual Abolition respectively, fill the previously empty 30th level slots.

Spells 530 and 230 will dispel a random number of spells from a target, favoring spells from the same sphere before out-of-sphere spells. Diligent training in the appropriate spell circle (Major Elemental for spell 530, Major Spiritual for spell 230) helps to increase the minimum number of spells dispelled. Caster and target levels are also factored in determining the number of spells dispelled. At minimum one spell will always be dispelled.

For the purposes of in-sphere and out-of-sphere designation, spells from hybrid spell circles are considered to be in-sphere for both (e.g. Sorcerer Base spells are considered in-sphere for both Elemental and Spiritual dispels, Empath base spells are considered in-sphere for both Spiritual and Mental dispels, etc.).

The mana cost for these mass dispel spells is a static 30 mana.

With these new spells, and new core dispel mechanics, come some enhancements to spells 417 and 119, Elemental Dispel and Spiritual Dispel.

The mana cost for these spells is now reduced by one (1) mana per seventy-five (75) skill bonus in the mana control skill appropriate for the spell. Additionally, a chance to inflict nerve damage has been added when dispelling a prepared spell from a target as an added benefit.

The mana costs for dispelling a prepared spell or burning a target's mana remain a flat 17 mana, and are NOT affected by mana control skill training. The sphere interference cascade effect, triggered when single dispel spells of different spheres are used on the same target in combination, remains intact.

With the addition of spell 230 Spiritual Abolition, the 40th level Empath Base spell slot, previously home to the Empathic Dispel spell, has been freed for future development.

I am not going to post the list, but the game itself will be a Photo Scavenger Hunt.

I suggest, therefore, that if you want to play along and you have a digital camera that you bring it or borrow one if you don't. Any kind will work, be it an SLR, a point and shoot, or even one from your cell phone.

Major Downtime (Sort of) Coming

Author: SIMU-SOLOMON
Date: 7/9/2008 5:41:46 PM

As early as next week, our On-site Techs will be migrating the Billing Database over to their new servers. The actual data migration testing has taken almost 6 hours on the nose each time, so that's a fairly reliable starting point for how long this is going to take.

The impact won't be as bad as you might think, it just means people won't be able to log in during that window. If you're already in the game when we start the process, you'll be fine (unless you get booted for some reason).

To lessen the "damage", we're also planning on starting this process around 1 or 2 AM Central, which means we should be in the clear by 8 or 9 AM Central, I'd think.

Once we get a solid date, I'll let you know. The goal is to get this done by Wednesday at the latest, but since this is a 6 hour long process to "test", each bug they uncover adds at least another day to the task.

Kwithi Takes a Vacation

Author: GS4-THANDIWE

Kwithi Takes a Vacation

Healer Kwithi has hung up her apron for a short time to take a much needed vacation. She noted, upon packing, that the Monsoon season this year seemed to be longer than she remembered and that it was affecting her joints. She requests that everyone visiting Mist Harbor take the utmost of care with their health as she won?t be there to heal you while she is gone.

OOC Note: It appears that Kwithi has a bit of a bug in her. She decided, unbeknownst to us, that if you died near her she was going to send you out of Mist Harbor and into the streets of Ta?Vaalor. Until we can get this bugginess looked at, she?s going to be on hiatus. Please be careful when visiting Mist Harbor during this time.

Thank you!
