FORUMS POLICY UPDATE

Author: GS4-EMERADAN
Date: 2/29/2008 4:37:29 PM

In recognition of the 5% of the poster population which constitutes 95% of the Moderator staff's attention, the Moderators have updated the method by which posters are evaluated for Cautions, TAC Warnings, and possible removal from the Forums. This updated method is intended to remove problem posters in a more expedient manner than before, and should be hardly noticeable by 95% of the posters on the Forums. The basic guidelines are as follows:

2 Cautions for a specific behavior (Inflammatory/Flaming, for instance), then 1 TAC Warning (totalling 3 pulls for one behavior).

1 additional Caution for a specific behavior, then an additional TAC Warning (5 pulls consisting of 3 Cautions, 2 TAC Warnings).

TAC Warnings for each additional violation of a specific nature, which can lead to Lockout.

Each post removed as a Caution will include a current tally of the poster's pulls for that specific behavior (total of TAC Warnings and Cautions). Moderators will alert the Moderator Manager of those posters which qualify for review of their posting privileges.

It is our intention that this update be virtually invisible to the majority of our poster population which, overall, tends to police itself. However, it's a necessary evil to ensure that the GSIV Forums remain a place where posters can feel free to contribute their constructive ideas and thoughts without worrying about being harassed or intimidated.

Please feel free to contribute to discussion about this update in the Forums Discussions topic, located in the Front Ends, Forums, and Computer Help category.

History of the Minotaurs.

Author: GS4-MESTYS
Date: 2/29/2008 12:48:34 AM

Many legends and fables surround the brutish creatures known as minotaurs, predominantly due to their relatively mysterious existence. Both their introverted nature and curious appearance lend themselves to the creation of such tales, effectively shrouding their true nature in secrecy. Possessing the midsection of a man with the head and rear legs of a bull, the bipedal creatures are known chiefly for their fearsome strength and prowess in battle. Despite their physical development and beastly nature, however, minotaurs are also rather intelligent creatures. Their mental acuity has allowed them to become adept stone carvers, nearly rivaling dwarves in their architectural achievements of the underground.

Comprised of great warriors and magically inclined magi, minotaur communities are usually led by their strongest warrior or most adept magus, though the ultimate decision is determined by a council of revered elders. Commonly, these kings and queens join the council themselves, when they have reached a venerable age no longer fit for combat.

Historically, little has been documented on minotaurs, though accounts have been recorded implying that they are very territorial, often exhibiting lethal aggression toward any who cross into their land. Perhaps the most notable showing of the minotaurs was during the Age of Chaos when a large contingent of their numbers, driven by avarice and blood lust, allied themselves with Despana's forces in the Undead War. Led by the warrior Tordaak, the minotaurs were among the fiercest of Despana's vast army, charging into battle to crush her enemies under hoof in the name of conquest.

During the elven assault on Despana's keep at Maelshyve, countless numbers of Tordaak's minotaur brethren were vanquished alongside the hordes of undead, yet the warrior himself would not be defeated. With the fall of Maelshyve and Despana herself, the remaining minotaurs scattered to the north, driven back during the chaos of the clash with the demons unleashed by the Faendryl.

The minotaurs who survived the Undead War trekked northward through the western slopes of the DragonSpine mountains, taking shelter in natural and makeshift cave systems. Skirmishes were frequent in their nomadic existence, but Tordaak's leadership and cunning always saw them through these conflicts with minimal casualties.

Years passed as the minotaurs' mobile mountainside community began to thrive. However, it was evident to Tordaak and the current council that the only way for their kin to truly re-establish themselves was to settle down permanently. Regular seismic activity shook the ground beneath their hooves, and the resultant fissures and avalanches were a constant threat.

Tordaak sent out parties of the minotaurs' most resilient scouts to seek out favorable grounds for a permanent home. Many weeks went by as the rest of the community anticipated both the return of the scouts and the opportunity to lay down the foundation for their new society. Finally, the first of the scouts began to filter back, with reports of their excursions into the mountains and beyond.

After hearing the details of the reports and studying the impromptu maps drawn by the scouts, the council decreed that the minotaurs would head west into the Dragonsclaw mountain range. Tordaak and the rest of the community set out with a renewed resolve in their hearts, knowing that they would reaffirm their legacy in Elanthia with a new age of minotaur.

The minotaurs traveled for months across the terrain, through forests and across lands that would one day be fortified by fortresses built by human hands. At last they reached their destination -- the mountain known as Wehntoph. The area was just as it had been described: steep slopes and craggy faces, a place where few outsiders would come to invade.

Excavation work began immediately on the top of a nearby plateau, and by the end of the first year of residence, the minotaurs' compound began to take shape. Elaborate tunnel systems ran deep into the plateau, both elegant and functional for the livelihood of the community. A cadre of the most skilled minotaur magi wove their magic into the walls, ensuring that no outsiders would ever be able to reliably navigate its passages. On the surface, lush gardens were cultivated near the temporary dwellings that were erected using the rock pulled from below.

The decades came and went as the old council and many of the elders passed away, yet neither Tordaak's strength nor his exuberance showed any signs of faltering. His longevity allowed him to witness the results of his labor as the first generation born into the new rock matured into adulthood. As the fledgling society grew, stories of the tribe's origins were passed down from elder to youth and recorded in masterful murals that decorated the cave walls. Tordaak came to be known as a living legend, the great and powerful leader who brought the minotaurs to the new land of prosperity.

Nearly four centuries passed since the minotaurs had arrived at their new home, and still Tordaak's inexplicable youth remained. Many believed him to be imbued with immortality by the gods themselves, while others theorized that the great warrior could not die outside of battle, but the truth was never to be known. Regardless of the origins of his power, Tordaak was ready when the invaders came.

The first incursion occurred deep within the lowest depths of the minotaurs' tunnels. The reinforced walls crumbled as the unknown beings emerged and began working their way upward. Tordaak lead his warriors against the swarm, scattering the creatures under the might of his battle axe. Though the minotaurs lost few of their own, there seemed to be no end to the forces pouring through the crevasse.

The ensuing assault lasted for days, and the minotaurs were slowly losing ground. Anticipating a disastrous outcome for their people, the council called for an evacuation to a cavern expansion further up the slopes of the Wehntoph. Though Tordaak respected the decision of the elders, he refused to accompany them in their retreat. A number of warriors and magi stayed behind with Tordaak, allowing the rest of their kin the opportunity to escape.

As the last of the refugees fled the plateau, Tordaak's mighty battle cry rang across the peaks, shaking the earth with a thunderous roar and sealing the fates of all who remained behind in an enormous avalanche. The foundations of the minotaur dwellings shook and crumbled, and the way to the plateau was lost. Those who survived of the minotaur tribe were shocked, as the steadfast pillar of their society had fallen, but respected his sacrifice as they made their way to the secondary cavern.

The minotaurs settled in to the new labyrinth and fortified its walls with powerful incantations specifically designed to prevent any further incursions through the ground. It is there that they remained for many generations, keeping mostly to themselves as the world continued to evolve around them.

No attempts were made to unearth the hallowed grounds of their previous home, both out of reverence for those who perished there in the battle and fear of reprisal from their powerful unknown adversary. Over time, even the location of the old labyrinth was lost, merely becoming another facet of Tordaak's legend.

Krag Slopes/Minotaur Labyrinth Rehaul.

Author: GS4-MESTYS
Date: 2/29/2008 12:48:30 AM

A number of creatures around the Wehntoph area in the region of Wehnimer's Landing have been updated. Krag dwellers, krag yetis, lesser minotaurs, minotaur magi, and minotaur warriors have all significantly increased in power and ability, spanning base levels of 70 to 78. Each of the creatures that were not previously governed by the Basic Critter System (BCS) were updated to utilize the system, and those that were already have been further enhanced.

Included in the update was the revealing of the new minotaur labyrinth, located off the western portion of the Upper Krag Slopes. The previous labyrinth has been cut off and will no longer be accessible. Those who wish to venture within would be wise to have a competent amount of Climbing skill.

The Fall of the House of Sulldina.

Author: GS4-MESTYS
Date: 2/29/2008 12:48:25 AM

In a final, desparate act, the minotaur magus Sulldina managed to remove the barrier from the doors leading to the very core of the recovered labyrinth. Where she anticipated triumph and acceptance from her tribe, she found only the ire of the spirit of Tordaak, who once again shook the cavern walls of the former violent battleground before disappearing into the night. A band of adventurers managed to unearth the doors from the partial collapse and force their way to the dark altar. Inside lay a battered Sulldina, critically wounded from the cave-in. In the delirium of her last breaths, the only question on her lips was, "Why?"

More Minotaur Madness!

Author: GS4-AUCHAND
Date: 2/28/2008 10:40:50 AM

Days of violent clashes between the newly empowered krag creatures and the minotaurs on the slopes of Wehntoph triggered a landslide, greatly changing the landscape of the mountain. The way to the minotaurs' home was lost, while the ancient ruins of a previous compound were unearthed. In desperation, the minotaurs fell back to the ancient site and began re-establishing their community. The former palace atop the plateau was constructed during the reign of the great minotaur warrior-king Tordaak, vacated during a cataclysmic battle against an unknown foe centuries ago.

Many brave adventurers have explored the newly accessible plateau and delved into the minotaurs' extensive labyrinth. They have found that the minotaurs have successfully barred the krag creatures from entering their newly re-inhabited compound, but there is some concern about just how much of the labyrinth the minotaurs have reopened and what may be lurking beyond doors that have yet to be unsealed...

Little has been seen of the minotaur magus Sulldina, who called upon the spirit of Tordaak to set these events in motion. While the other minotaurs and krag creatures grew in power, Sulldina did not. When she was last seen, shortly after the landslide, she was incoherent and despondent. Residents of nearby Wehnimer's Landing have expressed hope that she does not do anything more drastic in an attempt to gain the power she seeks.

In an effort to raise extra funds for the town's coffers, local officials have agreed to allow sorcerers to purchase permits to bring demons into the town walls.

When asked his opinion on the matter, the town's Deputy merely hiccuped.

Demon permits are now available through an iron door on the second floor of the Company Store.

Swimming to OTF

Author: GS4-BERNT

Getting to and from Old Ta'Faendryl requires swimming skill to pass a point on Gyldemar Road. Unfortunately, an implementation flaw had allowed this check to be bypassed by logging out mid-stream. This flaw has been corrected; players are cautioned to be sure their character can complete the swim before entering the water!

Warcamp System Released!

Author: GS4-COASE
Date: 2/26/2008 8:31:00 PM

As a part of the new society, the warcamp system has also been released. Warcamps are mobile hunting grounds that are normally hidden away from prying eyes. One of the new society's powers reveals and allows access to these special hunting grounds.

Creatures spawned in these special areas adjust their level and abilities to the character (or characters) who spawn them. If these warcamps are left alone, they will gradually build in population until they start spilling out into nearby hunting and travel areas. On the other hand, if enough of their population is killed in battle, the warcamp may be destroyed via the new RAZE command.

The PROFILE verb keeps track of the number of warcamps you have been given credit for destroying. In order to receive credit for a warcamp destruction, you must be physically present in the warcamp when it is razed and have killed at least five experience-granting creatures.

Extreme caution should be used when entering one of these warcamps, as their total creature populations can range in to the hundreds, if not kept in check!

New Society Released!

Author: GS4-COASE
Date: 2/26/2008 8:30:26 PM

A new society has been released: The Guardians of Sunfist!

The society's main mission is to destroy the Grimswarm and their monstrous mountain allies. The society's headquarters are in Zul Logoth, in the Marcasite Tunnel. All prospective candidates for admission must first be invited to join the order (by either a recruiter or an outpost superintendent) and then meet with the society's Grandmaster in Zul Logoth.

Once joined, you may then perform tasks for the society to gain advancement credit towards your next rank. You can also earn advancement credit by destroying warcamps or by killing enemy creatures. In addition to the headquarters in Zul Logoth, training outposts also exist in:

Wehnimer's Landing (Lower Dragonsclaw)
Icemule Trace (due south from outside the East Gate)
Solhaven (the Outlands)
River's Rest (Grassland Path)
Ta'Illistim (Sylvarraend, Foehn Var)
Ta'Vaalor (Fearling Pass)
Teras Isle (Basalt Flats)

The powers offered by the new society are powered by a mix of mana and stamina, though the exact nature of each will be left to be discovered by the first new members. All questions, bug reports, and other comments related to the new society or the warcamp system should be posted in the Organizations and Societies, Guardians of Sunfist section of the forums.

New allies in the struggle against the Grimswarm!

Author: GS4-COASE
Date: 2/26/2008 8:29:47 PM

Talks between the Guardians of Sunfist and the various town and imperial government of Elanthia have successfully concluded! Recognizing the danger that the Grimswarm poses, each government has allowed the Guardians of Sunfist to set up training facilities in their territories.

With these newly revealed techniques, the armies of Tamzyrr and the Vaalor have begun to successfully strike back against the Grimswarm. Brave adventurers, led by the Guardians of Sunfist, have also managed to penetrate several warcamps and raze them to the ground. For the first time in weeks, the Grimswarm has been thrown back on the defensive.

Though the Grimswarm still infests much of the lands on both sides of the DragonSpine, their ability to continually attack and retreat without being detected has been significantly compromised by these recent developments. While the war is by no means over, control over the countryside has been reestablished to such a degree that refugees have started to return home to rebuild their villages and farms under the shield of the resurgent human and elven armies.

Though the threat to civilization has been reduced, the Grimswarm is still firmly in control of much land and it will likely take years of hard fighting before they can truly be vanquished. As such, the Guardians of Sunfist have been further commissioned to train all those who wish to volunteer in the long fight against the Grimswarm. The struggle will likely be long and hard, but the Guardians have sworn to fight the Grimswarm to the end.

Major Sanctuary (220) Updated!

Author: GS4-OSCURO
Date: 2/23/2008 4:17:51 PM

Major Sanctuary (220) has been updated to include 39 new sanctuary options corresponding to natural lesser spirits (the same as the subtypes for spirit servants). Additionally, a caster can select which natural sanctuary they will arrive in by using a runestone inscribed with the appropriate common rune (use the RUNE command for more information on how to create runestones). If the caster is not converted to a deity, then a cast of Major Sanctuary will result in him arriving in a sactuary created by lesser spirits local to the realm.

The Luukos sanctuary has been renamed from "Cavern Sanctuary" to "Underground Sanctuary" to not be confused with the "Cavern Sanctuary" associated with cavern spirits.

A huge "thank you" to GM Thandiwe for writing the descriptions for these rooms.

The new spell description can be found here: http://www.play.net/gs4/info/spells/spelllist.asp?circle=4#220

Aid in the struggle against the Grimswarm?

Author: GS4-COASE
Date: 2/22/2008 4:34:38 PM

In the face of increasingly effective hit-and-run tactics by the Grimswarm, the human and Vaalor armies have decided give up their fruitless and costly attempt to engage the Grimswarm in open combat, and to pull back the majority of their forces into their most heavily guarded towns and fortresses. As such, large swathes of the countryside have effectively been ceded to the Grimswarm. On those lands, reports from adventurers and other hardy souls have indicated that the Grimswarm has started to move beyond nomadic raiding and is apparently beginning to lay claim to lands and to start what appears to be long-term settlement.

All hope is not lost, however, as several representatives from an organization called the Guardians of Sunfist have visited towns on both sides of the DragonSpine to offer their aid in the struggle against the Grimswarm. These individuals claim that the ability of the Grimswarm to move about undetected and strike from hidden staging grounds is due to the Grimswarm's recent mastery of powerful shrouding magic. The Grimswarm has since used that magic to escape from their old lairs in the DragonSpine and freely pillage the rich human and elven lands.

Fortunately, the Guardians of Sunfist claim to have developed a method that can temporarily pierce the magical shrouds that surround the Grimswarm's encampments. They have successfully demonstrated this technique on several occasions, which has allowed intrepid adventurers to enter and destroy Grimswarm warcamps near Ta'Illistim and Wehnimer's Landing. Talks between the Guardians of Sunfist and the various town and imperial governments have commenced, with the hope that the techniques of the Guardians of Sunfist could be taught to beleaguered human and elven armies, and thus turn the tide of the war.

March Rent for Wehnimer's Player Shops

Author: GS4-AUCHAND
Date: 2/22/2008 11:11:38 AM

At the beginning of February, a bug caused some players with Wehnimer's player shops were double-charged for their stores. This resulted in the inadvertent repossession of some player shops and lower-than-usual balances in others. Per previous announcements, players affected by this bug were asked to ASSIST so that their shops could be replaced or the extra charges be refunded.

The February issue with Wehnimer's player shops has been addressed and fixed, but the March rent deadline is swiftly approaching. Some players may still be unaware of double-charged shop balances. Please check to ensure that your balance is sufficient to pay for your March rent.

You are still encouraged to ASSIST if you were previously double-charged for your Wehnimer's player shop at the February deadline.

Magical Minotaur Mayhem!

Author: GS4-AUCHAND
Date: 2/21/2008 11:24:38 PM

Seismic activity began several days ago in the vicinity of Wehntoph. A scout that was present for the phenomenon contacted the locals of Wehnimer's Landing, seeking their assistance. The brave adventurers traveled to the mountain and discovered that the pathway to the minotaur labyrinth there was blocked off. With aid of a scrying bowl, they were able to view events unfolding in the minotaurs' Great Hall.

There, a number of minotaur magi participated in a ceremony headed by their evident leader, Sulldina. They summoned the spirit of the minotaur warrior-king Tordaak. At Sulldina's request, Tordaak bestowed upon her tribe a blessing before departing.

Since this strange ceremony, the power of the minotaurs has grown. They have spread into the Krag Slopes, eager to test their burgeoning strength, but have been stymied by krag dwellers and yetis that appear, strangely, to match their newfound power. Perhaps Tordaak's blessing has strengthened his people even as it provides them a new, terrible challenge.

Ayanad Crystals Galore

Author: GS4-NAOS
Date: 2/19/2008 11:29:51 PM

Alchemists of sufficient rank to infuse mana into their solutions (rank 30 general alchemy) will find three new recipes that should help them (and others) progress through general alchemy.

Each of these three recipes effectively takes one type of ayanad crystal and uses it to produce two crystals of the next lower tier through a bit of time and coin.

Each recipe is structured as follows: add crystalline solution, add an essence shard, *, infuse mana.

The asterisk (*) in the recipe is replaced with the dust that is extracted from a given type of ayanad crystal. Faintly shimmering dust has been introduced as an extract of n'ayanad crystals, while faintly radiant and glowing dusts remain extracts of t'ayanad and s'ayanad crystals respectively. Fainly glimmering dust from ayanad crystals yields nothing of use.

To reiterate, the three new recipes are as follows:

ayanad: add crystalline solution, add an essence shard, add faintly glowing dust, infuse mana

s'ayanad: add crystalline solution, add an essence shard, add faintly radiant dust, infuse mana

t'ayanad: add crystalline solution, add an essence shard, add faintly shimmering dust, infuse mana

Again, these recipes yield a cluster of two crystals on tier lower than the crystal used to create them. Clusters may be separated by using either of the following syntaxes:

GET {item} FROM {cluster}

-or-

GET {number} {cluster}

As an example, if you create "a cluster of ayanad crystals", you can use either "GET CRYSTAL FROM CRYSTALS" or "GET 1 CRYSTALS" to remove a single crystal from the cluster. Lose crystals cannot be added into existing clusters, or clustered together with other loose crystals.

These recipes are considered rank 30 recipes for training purposes, and can be used as 'tough' recipes. With these recipes in place, the recipe for essence shards has been reduced in effective rank.

Yes, a single n'ayanad crystal can effectively be used for eight (8) 'tough' infuse reps, yeilding a total of eight (8) ayanad crystals.

Barrel prices slashed!

Due to complaints by certain shady individuals that the more prominent residents of River's Rest were not willing to lower themselves to being crammed, squished, and thoroughly humiliated in barrels used for nefarious purposes, the barrel makers of Elanthia have slashed prices to generate more business!

In other words...those citizens of River's Rest seeking to travel by less than legal means by less than comfortable means to River's Rest will find the price for such services cut in half. :)

Thanks to GameMaster Varulv for being the muscle to convince the barrel folks to make the change!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR YOUR SECURITY

Author: GS4-ZYLLAH
Date: 2/12/2008 1:11:45 AM

Simutronics does not endorse or encourage the sharing of account passwords. Almost all breaches of account security can be traced back to the sharing of an account password with another "trusted" individual. Passwords should never be given out to anyone, including family members. Simutronics is not liable for reparations when problems on an account occur due to a shared password. Simutronics staff members will never ask for an account password.

GameMasters conduct official GemStone IV business within the live game. Players have a responsibility to protect themselves by doing the same. If you are ever contacted outside of the live game by someone claiming to be a GameMaster, please inform them they must contact you within the game with their GameMaster persona displaying their GameMaster title. Typically, the only official business handled in emails is with Feedback or with GameMasters in charge of such systems as Weddings, the MHO, and the CHE. Even in those instances, if anything sounds questionable or suspicious, ask to meet the GameMaster in person in the game.

Abiding by the above two important policies will ensure that players can rest easy in knowing that their account and characters remain protected and secure. Each player is responsible for the security of his or her account.

Kharam Dzu: Not just your ordinary dirty dwarves!

Author: GS4-LIIA
Date: 2/9/2008 11:08:20 PM

Since the Eye of V'Tull has become more active, the build up of ash in the Mud Baths near the intersection of Mithril and Dragonswing has made the baths more.... well, more muddy!

Why not enjoy a dirty good time today! Playful fun is encouraged, though please realize that mud does make you dirty.

No lockers in Cysaegir...

Author: GS4-JACIEN
Date: 2/9/2008 5:51:06 PM

...Is a statement that belongs in the past!

After many, many, many, many.... Did I say many? Anyway, after many long months of debate, the town officials have decided to enter into an agreement with a nearby municipality.

For your pleasure, individuals that have locker access in Ta'Illistim can now access their lockers from within the town proper of Cysaegir. No more running back and forth between these two towns to lighten or add to your load.

Check it out, you guys have lockers.... Sorta ;)

Enjoy!

Ariebaela returns home!

Author: GS4-JACIEN
Date: 2/9/2008 5:49:25 PM

After years of traveling the Lady Ariebaela, Ranger extraordinaire, has finally returned home to Cysaegir.

When asked what prompted her return, Ariebaela reportedly replied, "I've spent years traveling. I've seen many wondrous things and I know there is so much more to see. But I simply missed my family and decided it was high time that I came back home.

It was fun, and maybe one day I'll decide to adventure again, but right now, I think I'd like to settle down for a few years and start a little business of my own. I purchased the cutest little whitewashed cottage right here in town. I look forward to meeting everyone!"

Your local fletcher shop is now opened.

Enjoy!

Important Notice for Wehnimer's Shop Owners

Author: GS4-AUCHAND
Date: 2/8/2008 1:38:13 PM

As GM Sleken posted previously, Wehnimer's shop owners may have noticed unusual shop behavior at the beginning of February. Specifically, it appears that a bug in the Wehnimer's shop systems caused player shop owners to be charged their monthly rent more than once. The bug was caught and fixed, but not before accomplishing a bit of mischief. This has resulted in two issues:

1) Some players will have had one extra month's worth of rent deducted from their balance.

2) Players without a sufficient balance to cover the extra rent have had their shop repossessed.

If you are a Wehnimer's shop owner and have been affected, please request an ASSIST in-game to speak with a GameHost. We will refund the extra silvers charged and, in the event that your shop was lost due to this issue, it will be restored.

Players who have lost shops due to this issue should recover their inventory crate in the player shop permit authority office in Wehnimer's. All players with Wehnimer's shops should check their shop balances promptly.

You have our apologies for the issue, and our thanks for your patience.

Grim Tidings

Author: GS4-VARULV
Date: 2/7/2008 4:34:08 PM

The Vaalorian and Turramzzyrian armies have mustered and have managed to repel several assaults by the marauding creatures that have come to be known as the Grimswarm. Major cities both east and west of the Dragonspine continue to experience unrelenting waves of attacks but the organized defense forces, with the aid of innumerable and heroic volunteers, have kept the invaders largely at bay.

Constant raiding across smaller towns and villages has begun to worry the major political leaders of all races, however, as concerns over their inability to protect the citizens of more distant and isolated villages and hamlets are realized. Streams of refugees have been pouring into the most defensible cities, and the specter of food shortages looms large as rural farms and fields are pillaged and burned.

Even more troubling is the Grimswarm's startling ability to appear out of nowhere, pillage, and then disappear immediately after retreating with their loot, making an effective counter attack impossible. The armies of Tamzyrr and the Vaalor thus appear stymied in their efforts to decisively engage and destroy the Grimswarm. They continue to restate their prior warnings that the countryside is not secure and that any travel or hunting should be done with the utmost caution.

Got stories?

Author: GS4-JACIEN
Date: 2/7/2008 1:16:31 PM

Do you like to dabble or consider yourself a connoisseur in the art of storytelling? Do you have stories that you've written that are lying around collecting dust? Would you like them finally to have a platform where others besides you and the dust bunnies can enjoy them? Perhaps you'd like to try your hand at a new story and share that with your friends in Elanthia?

Well, if you do have a story, a song, or a poem, we'd like to hear it.

There are a few rules:

1) You can submit a story, a poem, or a song. It must be an original composition of your own. It should be a short story, not a novel. Keyword: short ;)

2) Use of names of any of your personal GS characters or others must be avoided.

3) Send entries via email to GS4-Jacien@play.net with "Cysaegir Storyteller Contest" on the subject line. One story per email and do please include your character name and account name with your submission.

4) All entries are subject to final QC approval and may be modified to fit QC requirements. The top three winners will receive a prize. The only people that will be directly contacted are the winners. All submitted entries may be implemented.

All entries must be received no later than March 15, 2008. Contest is open to everyone!

A Grim Swarm

Author: GS4-VARULV
Date: 2/5/2008 6:35:44 AM

Authorities from as far apart as the port of Solhaven to the Fortress of Ta'Vaalor are struggling to respond to a multitude of reports of marauding bands of giants, trolls, and orcs assaulting cities and settlements. No explanation has yet been offered for the invaders' ability to suddenly appear, attack, and just as quickly vanish. Scholars of Ta'Illistim are reportedly at a loss to explain how this force could have mustered in such numbers without drawing attention, let alone how they are managing to coordinate their attacks.

The Militia of Ta'Vaalor mustered quickly to repel the assaults on that city, but reports from the western side of the Dragonspine are more dire, with rumors of raiders plundering the streets of many settlements of the Turramzzyrian Empire. Particularly hard hit were
the iron mines of Krinklehorn, with squadrons attacking and destroying a number of the region's crucial forges and foundries.

Travelers are warned to be particularly cautious when venturing far from their local city's defenses and encouraged to stay in groups.

Player Shop Problems February 01, 2008.

Author: GS4-SLEKEN
Date: 2/1/2008 8:09:36 PM

During the monthly rent collection for player shops a script went out of control and mistakenly charged some shops their monthly rent repeatedly. As a result, some shops were repossessed since they didn't have a balance capable of covering several months worth of rent.

This problem was confined to player shops in the Landing in the GSIV prime instance. Not all shops in the Landing were affected.

For those of you that believe you were over charged rent, but did not lose your shop, please assist and ask to speak to a GM about replacement of silvers.

For those that lost a shop, please do the same and tell the GM that you lost your shop. Your shop will be replaced. I will have to manually replace your shop, so I ask for your patience. Shop replacements will be my priority in the coming days.

Also, if you lost your shop, go to the shop permit office and claim the box with your items in it as soon as possible.

GemStone IV: Legal at Last!

Author: GS4-AUCHAND
Date: 2/1/2008 1:43:36 PM

That's right, kids. GemStone's days as a snappy, underage hussy are done!

On February 1st, 1990, the original GemStone went live on GEnie. Now, eighteen years later, we're still alive and kicking. And why? Because of you.

Thanks for continuing to make the experience magical, folks. A lot of people have come and gone throughout the years, but you've stuck it out. And you know what that makes you?

Naw, me either.

Remember, if you make it to the 20th anniversary, we've gotta give you something made out of platinum. Okay, maybe we'll just do a festival for Platinum.
